A new trailer is available for Pokemon Black & White. We disect it and point out a few things you might not have noticed (as well as linking you to the trailer itself, in case you wanted to watch that as well!)
titen96 posted this link in the chatroom: kotaku.com.
That page shows the first official trailer for the japanese versions of Pokemon Black & White. Up until now we've only been given screenshots and the images of some of the legendary Pokemon.
Here's a bit of an in-depth look at the video… in your reply, let us know if you noticed anything else interesting!
This is what the new UI looks like! Isn't it … diamond-y? Not sure if I like it that much, but I'll probably get used to it. Good to see that they're experimenting with a new UI.
But… there's more! Have a look at the top of this screenshot.
There's been some speculation about whether B/W would have an infra-red port built into the cartridge, or if it was just a once-off for HG/SS as a result of the original Gold / Silver games also using infra-red for communications. It looks like we've got the first official proof that IR is in the new games.
Other useful information is displayed on the screen: the current time, and whether IR/WiFi/Wireless is currently active or not. There's also a battery meter… but although these games have been confirmed to work on all Nintendo DS consoles ("Phat" included) I'm betting that the battery meter will only work on Nintendo DSi and 3DS models — there is no way for game cartridges to read the battery level on the original DS consoles.
Next up — Integration with home PC's and some kind of integration with a website. I'm not sure what this means, and what you'd be able to do with this … but if you watch the video you'll see a bit more than this screenshot shows you… so I suggest you go and have a look now. The link is at the top of this page… or you can just be lazy and click here. :)
Not sure what this is. It says "GEAR" at the top so my first thought was "PokeGEAR" (a la Gold/Silver) … but this looks like connection-only settings… i.e. something to do with IR/WiFi/Wireless only, and not your regular options to Save the game and view your Trainer Card.
Once again there's a battery meter here, as well as an indication of wireless signal strength on the far right. As seen in a previous screenshot that I posted above, only Wireless was enabled when this video was recorded, so I suspect IR and Wi-Fi might have similar icons that appear between the battery and wireless icon, when those particular features are turned on and being used.
And something else which I missed the first time I watched the video — 3 vs 3 battles! Awesome!
Based on what I've heard about the new female character, I'm fairly certain that's not her in the picture, so you are still the one on the lower-left corner of the battle screen. That would make the woman in the screen shot your rival for the current battle. Probably a "Lass" or something or other…
Once again, there is more in the video so I suggest you watch that. I'm not going to post another link though… ;)
Edit: Moved this to the announcements section because I know there are quite a few Pokemon fans here.
