I personally drag-and-drop links from the chatroom into my Tab bar in Firefox to avoid this. But I do agree it is a problem.

Can't be helped. For the chatroom to auto-refresh and check for new posts, it needs to be in an iframe. Naturally, links then open inside the iframe unless you tell them not to by using the asterisk in front of the URL.
These are the types of links you should use in the chatroom:
*http://www.example.com
[*http://www.example.com example website]
All of them will work. The examples I showed you above look like this (in order):

That works as well, but only for people that are used to it. I middle-click every link, even if it's not in an iframe ;-) Easier to keep track of everything.

If the [*(website here)] code isnt used when entering a link in the chatroom it will appear as a link but it will open inside the box not in a tab or window, it happened to me in chrome
