I first found out about this game a few days ago… probably a bit less than a week. Bought it 1-2 days later and have been playing it quite a lot since then.

Here's a link fest for you to do your own research on the game if you aren't sure what it is all about:

Official website: http://www.minecraft.net
Play the classic version for free: Play Classic version ("free build" mode only)
Buy the latest (beta) version for about $20: Pre-purchase before release for discount

Community forums: Minecraft Forums
Community wiki: Minepedia

An awesome (and funny!) 31-day diary of someone playing the game. Highly recommended even if you don't know what the game is about. Starts here: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/11/20/the-minecraft-experiment-day-1-chasing-waterfalls/

If there are enough Minecraft premium (paid) players here, I'll think about setting up a multi-player server for us to build on. Cheapest price I have found is about $20 a month for a professionally-hosted minecraft server that is online 24/7, or I can host it at home and have a lot of downtime for free.

I'm thinking about uploading some pictures and possibly a video to YouTube of my own world, if anyone is interested. Search YT for "minecraft" and you'll find hundreds of videos already on there. Some funny, some awe-inspiring with what people have created.

I have Minecraft(discovered it about a month ago). I currently have a little private server on my LAN that my brother and I play on. :D

I currently have the Arid HD texture pack: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=64678

I think most of the regular CycloDS Revolution users would enjoy it. :)
But you do need a pretty powerful computer to run it.

To run what, the HD texture pack?

I know that Minecraft itself doesn't need a powerful computer, I'm using a Compaq Presario with a NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 440 and I can (sorta) play it well. It does seem as though my graphics card is dying though..

It -is- memory intensive though, it uses maybe 1GB memory on my computer. Which is a lot for my computer, considering I basically cannot play any games after 2006/8.

Minecraft itself with or without the textures pack requires a decent pc.

Minecraft is very poorly coded. :(

So are you going to set up a server?

Gariscus: Minecraft is very poorly coded. :(

There are also quite a few limitations in the JRE itself. As Java is designed to be cross-platform, you can't optimise applications and games for a specific OS.

ShadowValentine: It -is- memory intensive though, it uses maybe 1GB memory on my computer.

Yes, Minecraft uses a lot more memory than even some of the latest PC games, and every now and then you'll experience slow gameplay in SP as well.

BUT, the game is still in beta. There is room for improvement. Though for a game in beta, the creator has already earned more than 15 million and the game's won 7 awards so far. Not a bad result for a game with so many bugs ;-)

Gariscus: So are you going to set up a server?

I think I might, there seems to be a lot of people here with the game. Can't promise anything soon though.

Okay, not going to set up a server, I just don't have the time. I found a great server run by someone else, and don't even go on there now due to lack of time, so I'm mostly on SSP for short bursts of activity instead.

I've got a YouTube channel where I've been uploading videos of minecraft though - am thinking about starting a new world, or doing a challenge map (designed by someone else in the minecraft community, with hidden chests, etc.) … not really sure yet. Anyway, channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/LeigerGaming

FRAPS (recording software) keeps messing up on me though, so I'm not uploading as often as I'd like to.

Edit: Oh, and subscribers would be awesome for the YT channel… but it'd be pointless to subscribe unless you actually want to see my videos. So you can make your own mind up about that.

Cheers,
Shane / leiger

I play minecraft. Very fun game but I pray that when full version comes out that it'll be fixed. One Java really isn't meant for a full on video game. The game itself should run on a windows 93 computer since it is so graphically basic but the graphics engine is terribly poor so even if your computer plays high end games well, minecraft can be laggy and not render new areas very quickly. Thankfully the prerelease 3 bug of overheating was fixed with the 4th prerelease. I'm sure with time Notch will address each of these problems. Though if I had been him I wouldn't have written the game in java, though kinda unique way of doing it.

My video card is too old for minecraft so I have to borrow my uncles laptop
