they need backward compatibility, otherwise people woudn't buy it. many people like the old games and so if you can't play 'em, what's the point in buying the new consol. i have a consol to play games, not use it to take pics or the internet.

i'm barely starting to get used to 3D in movies. i don't need it in a damn handheld. the mobile GPU in the 3DS better be DAMN impressive if they expect me to get another handheld.

There will always be a place for good 2D games - but the possibility for games to at least be partly 3D (e.g. cinematic cut-scenes between missions in 3D, whilst the actual game is in 2D) would definitely be a good thing.
I think most of the problems people have with 3D in cinemas is that they can't wear the glasses for long periods. Perhaps glasses-free 3D will solve that problem.

If games can be installed directly on the 3DS I won't need a flashcart :) I don't even use RTS / Cheats, etc (though I have tested/tried them before). It's just a convenience thing.
The CycloDS is pretty much guaranteed to not work on the 3DS. It doesn't work on the DSi, and that has 'backwards compatibility' for non-DSi games. Nintendo has so far been successful in preventing flashcart developers from accessing DSi mode.

I like to play around with cheats, so if there was functionality for those I'd like it. ;)
But I doubt CycloDS will work, and perhaps at this point the 3DS or DSi could go down the Custom Firmware route.

Custom firmware (whilst more risky as you can brick the console) looks like it might be the only way to go - I agree.
Still, I'd like it if TC was able to create a flash cart for the 3DS. Somehow having those extra features (despite rarely using them) is still better than not having them at all. If I decide I want to use cheats one day, it'd be great to be able to do that. And Team Cyclops is the best team for the job IMO. The AKAIO team does well enough I suppose, but I don't like their GUI :P

There is a chance that they might make a dash board like the way the xbox360 is and make it to where you can download older games like the fantastic Super Metriod and Super Mario: Legend of the Seven Stars to a removable storage or internal drive. But how much could you fit in a NDS and not sacrifice required hardware to run it?
I think the release of this might be neat. I just hope that if/when the remove the basic NDS from the 3DS that Team Cyclo is able to still keep up with Nintendo and make a Cyclo3DS or something <3.

With what he said. I'd honestly be scared to do something like that to my system. But I would if he said it works. Beta testing might be harder though. I hope you can create a backup copy and are able to still reinstall the firmware over a bad firmware if something goes wrong. If not. It might be too much trouble…

There's backup copies of the original DS lite firmware available, for anyone that decides to flash it with custom firmware … so I suspect that when the DSi or 3DS has custom firmware developed for it, the firmware that was taken off the console originally to be reverse engineered would be offered for download to people that wanted to switch back to the official firmware later.
I haven't tried flashing the firmware on my DS myself - and I'd prefer not to ;-)

The answer to all this is simple: companies building these extra features in from the get-go. It'll never happen though, due to patents and copyrights and all of those annoying legal barriers. Pretty sure the only reason the DSi doesn't support mp3 files is because Nintendo weren't able to get permission for it.
Homebrew developers just ignore the laws. Whilst that's technically illegal… it makes homebrew really useful.

Maybe so. But we all know that everything can be hacked, cracked or bypassed. It just takes that one special person to finally do it. It will happen. I'm hoping sooner than later.
(also, even if nintendo has a funny mp3, format. Someone will find a way to make a converter for the DSi so you can load your mp3's and make em into the DSi's format and play it anyways.)

Im voting on $240-350 range on the thing. Its the only handheld being released this year (currently) its gonna lead. Reguardless of its price. Nintendo might just try and eat everyone up while they got the chance.

At risk of encouraging this being off topic… The logging-in issues might also be something to do with your browser settings. I think cookies are used to store login sessions, so if you have set your browser to either reject cookies or to clear them automatically whenever you close it, that will probably lead you to be logged out.
Another thing to check is what fingerz suggested - the check box when you log in should be un-ticked if you are on your own computer, and ticked if you are on a public computer (e.g. public library, or at someone else's house)

Nope, the CycloDS will not work in a Nintendo DSi.
It is capable of playing DSi-enhanced games on a DS lite console … just as any DS lite console is able to play DSi-enhanced games even without the CycloDS.

Just for the sake of argument:
They showcased the new Yoshi's Island on the 3DS at E3 and it looks really fricking awesome! Only problem is that due to the technology they use, only person who can enjoy the 3D effects is the person sitting right in front of the machine. If you look at the top screen from the side, it's a blurry mess.
They're also working on adapting 3d movies to the 3DS. I think it will be worth the investment personally. I hate those stupid wonky glasses anyways.
